Position Overview
Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is seeking a Sr. Corporate Tax Accountant (contract-to-hire) to join their team in Georgia. This person will play a key role in managing multi-jurisdictional tax compliance across several areas, including property, corporate income, sales and use, and payroll. This position will perform detailed reviews of tax filings, support audits and reporting, and assist in implementing best practices across the tax function.
Key Responsibilities
Property Tax
- Lead preparation and review of corporate property tax returns, including real and business personal property filings (e.g., PT-50, PT-42, PT-41), manage abatements and exemptions, and support appeals or settlements as needed.
- Oversee annual property tax budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyze property tax assessments and assist in appeals or adjustments as needed.
Corporate Income Tax
- Manage preparation and review of federal and state income tax returns, extensions, and estimated tax payments.
- Review and analyze supporting work papers, including M-3 schedules, income statement, and balance sheet items presented on the returns.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate accounting policies for income tax reporting and provision calculations.
- Assist with preparation and filing of estimated tax payments and related documentation.
- Support audits and respond to inquiries from federal and state tax authorities as needed.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure proper accounting for income taxes across applicable entities.
Sales and Use Tax
- Review monthly and annual sales and use tax returns and supporting documentation.
- Research and resolve complex sales and use tax issues, notices, and exemptions.
Payroll and Other Compliance
- Review federal and state payroll tax returns and filings, including W-2 reconciliations and year-end reports.
- Support preparation of annual 1099 filings and other miscellaneous compliance reports.
General
- Maintain and improve internal controls and documentation across all tax processes.
- Assist in research and interpretation of new or revised tax legislation and accounting guidance.
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax authorities as needed.
- Support leadership in identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or candidate preferred but not required.
Experience:
- 5-8 years of progressive experience in public accounting or corporate tax roles.
- Strong background in property and corporate income tax compliance, with working knowledge of sales/use and payroll tax.
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency with tax preparation and research software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystems, or similar).
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel and general accounting system proficiency.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
